China Railway Construction western railway mining line in Algeria welcomes new progress

On November 10th local time, China Railway Construction's mining line project for the western railway in Algeria, the Hassihbi Sleeper Factory in Tindouf Province, was officially put into operation, marking the full launch of the project's track engineering. This is also the first time that a Chinese designed sleeper scheme has been used in a local heavy-duty railway project.

The railway project is an important project of high-quality joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" between China and Argentina, and the largest single project contracted by Chinese enterprises in Afghanistan in recent years. The main construction content of the desert heavy-duty railway is to build a new 575 kilometer railway, which connects the Besar Province and the Galaa Jebilet Iron Mine area in the Tindouf Province of Algeria. It is jointly implemented by China Railway Construction and the local state-owned enterprise COSIDER TP in Algeria. After the completion of the project, it will further improve the Algerian national railway network, connect mining areas, industrial zones, and ports, and assist in the interconnection and economic development of southwestern provinces in Algeria.

This rail sleeper factory is the first standardized railway concrete rail sleeper factory by a Chinese enterprise in the Sahara Desert region. The factory covers an area of 91000 square meters and undertakes the task of prefabricating and supplying 1.2 million rail sleepers for the project. It is equipped with two automated circular rail sleeper production lines, with a production capacity of 1500 per day for single line double shift and 3000 per day for double line double shift. The project team adopted measures such as slimming the waist of the sleeper and reserving sand flushing holes during the sleeper design process to improve track stability, durability, and other performance, ensure railway operation safety and service life, and reduce maintenance costs. The improved sleepers produced have been recognized by the Algerian National Railway Investment Design and Implementation Supervision Administration and promoted throughout the line, driving Chinese solutions into the local area.
